[Pork Free]
This was my go-to comfort food during the MCO lockdown in 2020. A quick WhatsApp order and they delivered piping hot HK beef noodle soup to my doorstep within 30 minutes! So during my last trip in town, I decided to drop by Yung Gee and see if it was still as good as before.

I've heard that they were originally a branch of Yung Kee Beef Noodles in Pudu but due to some differences, they've decided split and change their name to Yung Gee (completely unverified info, trust at your own risk). Regardless of their origins, I hope they retained the taste that I've grown to love.
The interior is comfortable and feels like a cafe set-up sans the coffee aroma.

Their two-pager menu is straightforward and even newbies to the shop will know what you're getting.

Prices are on the higher side especially if you're ordering premiums beef cuts (honeycomb, short rib, side skirt, etc). Do note that the "Dry Noodle" option is only available on weekends.

Our orders arrived in around 5minutes, not much of a wait at 11 am but the kitchen is generally efficient during peak periods too.

Let's makan!
Mix Tendon Mee+Meehoon Soup (4/5)
The only way to describe their soup is to imagine bak kut teh with beef instead of pork. It has a strong distinctive herbal aroma and packs a ton of beefiness. Unfortunately, a pattern that I noticed is a weaker & thinner soup in the morning - the ones that I've savoured in the evenings have so much more body! While I understand that flavours take time to develop, the flavour gap was too big to ignore.
Toppings wise, the Mix Tendon Noodles provides the most value for money as it offers a variety of beef parts without breaking the bank. The tendon, tripe and beef are well prepared and flavourful. However, the beef balls here are regular tasting and nowhere near the quality of the beef balls served at Shin Kee Beef Noodles.

Navel Three Treasure Dry Hor Fun (3.5/5)
The beef navel or beef belly is a moreish cut layered with fat - resulting in a melt-in-your-mouth texture when cooked correctly. The honeycomb, on the other hand, is a lining from the second chamber of the cow's stomach. Both parts were prepared well and I particularly enjoy the crunchy texture of the honeycomb.

The dry noodles sauce was slightly watered down and could use more aroma - some extra peanuts would be good? I had high expectations for this since it's a weekend special. But after tasting it, I personally prefer the soup version.

Their homemade chilli sauce was slightly forgettable. I'd have liked more acidity - either from a squeeze of fresh lime or a splash of vinegar.

Overall, it's still a comfortable place to enjoy a tasty bowl of HK style beef noodles. They offer a generous variety of toppings - from beef offals to premium beef cuts - to satisfy every beef lover's cravings. If possible, do visit the place for dinner instead of lunch. The soup is thicker and beefier in the evenings and parking is also easier outside of office hours.
