Pahn-Thai Restaurant @ Berjaya Resort, Langkawi

[Pork Free]

Looking for a romantic dinner restaurant in Langkawi? Chances are you've seen this restaurant at the top of your Google search list. Located in Berjaya Langkawi Resort, Pahn-Thai is tucked in the far west of the island, offering unobstructed views of the Andaman Sea and the Mat Chinchang mountain range.

The name Pahn-Thai is not just an indication that it's a Thai restaurant, but it's also a play on the Malay word "Pantai" which means "beach" to signify its beautiful location.

The restaurant is built on stilts so you get unobstructed views!

We arrived at around 6.30pm and were seated indoors as it was drizzling on and off. Confident that the rain would stop, we did not let the weather dampen our mood and proceeded to study their menu.

Yep, the floor was pretty wet so outdoor seats were removed

They offer both ala carte options and set menus. Not wanting to rack our brains, we opted for two set meals featuring an appetiser, soup, three main courses and a dessert each.

The waitstaff was friendly - on top of giving recommendations for the food, they even apologised for the gloomy weather. So imagine how happy all of us were when the rained stopped!

Food didn't take too long to arrive (maybe we were distracted by the views). Let's makan!

Appetiser Set 1 : Gai Hor Bai Toy (4/5)

Deep-fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaf. Though not the juiciest, the chicken was flavourful and well-marinated. The tangy dipping sauce was also a good start to the meal.

Appetiser Set 2: Som Tam Thai (3.5/5)

The classic Thai papaya salad. I find this quite average as it's not as spicy or flavour-packed as the usual fare you get from street vendors in Thailand. Lacking some oomph.

Soup Set 1: Tom Yum Tha Lay Numkhun (4.5/5)

Spicy hot and sour seafood soup with milk. The aromatic soup was filled with fresh prawns, squid, fish and mussels which added so much sweetness. If only the bowl was a tad bigger!

Soup Set 2: Tom Yum Goong (4.5/5)

Spicy hot and sour prawn soup. I found this spicier than the Tom Yum Tha Lay Numkhun, but the sweetness of the fresh prawns balanced out the spice.

Main Courses Set 1: Various served with rice (4/5)

#1 Kaing Phed Goong

Red curry prawn. The curry was milky and relatively mild, allowing the freshness of the prawns to shine through. Very nice to enjoy with steamed white rice.

#2 Pla Kra Pong Phad Prick Phao Deep-fried seabass fillet with roasted chilli sauce. Just look at all the peppers on top! The sauce was flavourful but personally, I'm not a huge fan of the chilli aroma so this was just okay for me.

#3 Phad Phak Ruam Mid

Stir-fried mixed vegetables. Tasted like regular mixed vegetables and I liked that the vege were still a bit crunchy.

Main Courses Set 2 : Various served with rice (4/5)

#1 Gai Phad Kra Phrao Stir-fried spicy minced chicken with Thai basil leaf. While the flavours were good, I would have liked abit more basil and of course, a crispy fried egg on top!

#2 Pla Kra Pong Sam Rom Deep-fried seabass fillet with spicy, sweet and sour sauce. Tastes like regular sweet and sour fish with abit more spiciness. At least I liked this more than the fish for Set 1.

#3 Phad Phak Khana Stir-fried kailan. Again, tasted as expected but the portion was slightly too small for me.

Dessert Set 1: Tub Tim Crob (4.5/5)

Water chestnut with jackfruit and coconut cream. The coconut cream wasn't too heavy and there was just enough sweetness and crunch from the water chestnut and jackfruit. A refreshing end to the meal.

Dessert Set 2: Sweet Thai Sticky Rice with Mango (4.5/5)

The mango was sweet, the sticky rice was cooked just right and the coconut milk has a nice hint of saltiness. They definitey did justice to one of my favourites.

Overall, this is a great private dining spot to visit with your loved ones. The views were breaktaking and the service was professional and friendly. Food-wise, it was good but not exactly amazing or special. But would I come back? Definitely. Perhaps I'll just order from their ala carte menu next time round and spend more time admiring the views. If you're adding this place to your list for your next Langkawi trip, make sure to dress up for some nice photos and also make a reservation to avoid disappointment!
